After yesterday’s quick 100, as promised, today was the Barossa run. We left the bikes at my place last night so we left from Virginia around 8.45 and quickly realised today was going to be tough, pushing into a strong headwind. The usual route to Gawler and just 30 kms in, Pop said before we tackle the climb into the Barossa (pushing into that wind) we need a quick break and hot drink at our usual Maccas. Through Gawler, onto the Barossa Trail, headwind, uphill. Along the way we had company, a Kangaroo bounding next to us for about 1 km. We thought at one point it was going to jump the fence just in front of us but it stopped last minute. We pushed into Nuriootpa averaging just 21.5 kmph, pretty worn out. Nan, Mum, Toby, Dakota & Dad all meet us for lunch, Mum had made chicken burgers which went down a treat. The return trip was always going to be easier and we found ourselves back in Gawler before we knew it. With just 30 kms to go we pushed hard to get our average up, finishing at 23.1 kmph. This will be our second last long ride before we head off to Melbourne. The bikes need to be serviced this week so we can be sure everything is working well.
Today’s stats 132 kms, 5 hrs 43 mins, max speed 53 kmph.
Thanks to everyone who has donated to Little Heroes Foundation this week it has been exciting to see the total rising. We are looking for cyclists who would like to ride the last 20kms with us from Urailda to the Adelaide Oval on Monday March 30th. We will meet in the car park newt to the bowling green and gather from about 10.30am for an 11am sharp departure to arrive at Adelaide Oval around 12 midday. This section is mostly downhill (quite steep in some sections). There will be more details on our Facebook page as we go. Next week we will publish our daily schedule.
